  • Transformation through integration: expressive arts makes the internal images and metaphors tangible through the integration of movement, words, sounds, symbols and images

Who it benefits:

  • Those facing challenges related to
  • physical and developmental delay and/or disabilities,
  • loss and grief, trauma,
  • relationship challenges including divorce, marital problems-
  • emotional and psychospiritual challenges

Why it works: Healing happens in several ways

  • Through the art making process or art activity itself (movement, sandplay, music making or listening, playing or art making)
  • Engages as many senses as possible. by seeing and feeling the process and the art  product- making music, dancing, engaging in the sand, art making etc. healing takes place,
  • Through the trusting and caring relationship that develops between you  and the therapist . Healing takes place as you engage in art activity in the presence of a trained therapist--who validates and witnesses what you bring into the session.
  • Allows you to express  and communicate thoughts and feelings, verbally or nonverbally
  • Fosters the use of imagination and critical thinking skills through creative arts activities which reduce anxiety and emotional conflicts and increase social skills, personal expression, self-awareness, and self-esteem.
  • Expressive arts speak where words fail. The arts by pass the defenses of the mind and reach into the mind and heart where lasting change can occur.

MUSIC PSYCHOTHERAPY :

Music psychotherapy is a process in which the therapeutic relationship is central to creating effective and lasting change.

SANDPLAY THERAPY:Heals from the inside out

Sandplay therapy is a non-intrusive and primarily nonverbal form of psychotherapy. It allows individuals, couples and families to work through developmental roadblocks by naturally engaging in their inner lives. Sandplay therapy provides the space, freedom, safety, and opportunity to work with the psyche's capacity to heal itself and to move to a new stage of life.

How it works:

  • Sandplay therapy uses the symbolism of the three-dimensional figures in a hands-on, non-verbal process. The sand itself, water and the therapist's collection of miniatures provide natural and cultural symbols.
  • Adult and child clients may or may not create their world in the sand, -a scene- in every session.
  • They may work with other forms of therapy- including verbal therapy- in addition to sandplay.
  • Trays of dry and wet sand and the powerfully symbolic miniatures are always available, no matter what the client's process. The process allows the unconscious to communicate its meaning and heal deep psychic wounds.
  • Sandplay therapists do not interpret sandplay images during the session, but observe the client and listen and respond to their comments. The therapist facilitates the process by holding the sacred space. This is the 'free and protected place' that Dora Kalff, the founder of sandplay, said was critical for the psyche to heal itself. The sandplay scene is left intact until the client leaves, at which time the therapist photographs the tray and makes sketches and notes.
